High blast protection requirements need not limit the choice of materials. Keep®safe system can be integrated into newly manufactured wooden windows, enabling them to withstand high blast loads while retaining all the architectural, environmental and economic benefits of wood.

This gives architects, property owners and clients another material option when security is an integral part of the building.

New possibilities for secure buildings

Blast-resistant wooden windows offer another option for protecting town halls, administrative buildings, schools and other public or critical facilities. They also open up new possibilities for buildings where wood is an important part of the architectural design or where reducing the construction’s carbon footprint is a priority.

The design, glazing and level of protection are tailored to the project’s needs and the building’s characteristics.

Security requirements are increasing, and many public buildings and critical facilities need enhanced protection. Blast-resistant wooden windows offer a new option for upgrading security in buildings such as town halls, administrative buildings and schools, where wooden windows are often used.

Keep®safe system is also suitable for new buildings, combining a high level of protection with the environmental and economic benefits of wood. The design, glazing and level of protection are tailored to the project’s needs and the building’s characteristics.

Testing large-format solutions

We have carried out blast tests on standard-production wooden windows measuring nearly four square metres. The windows were tested with several glazing combinations and at levels up to EXR2. All solutions included in the tests withstood the blast loads.

Our test results show that wooden windows can be installed in buildings with specified security requirements. This gives greater flexibility in the design process and more scope to balance security, architecture, cost and environmental considerations.
